CNA Program

Program Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at EVC is developed to prepare students for certification by the State of California as an entry-level health care worker in both acute and long-term care facilities. The curriculum is structured to provide theory and practical application on skills needed to function as a nurse assistant.

The CNA program qualifies students to work as nursing assistants in hospitals, long-term care, and in doctor’s office. The nursing assistant course at EVC was developed following the Department of Health Services (DHS) guidelines. It is a 7-week program designed for students to qualify as certified nursing aides in hospitals and hospices.

Prerequisites

All students must be at least 17 years of age.

Graduation Requirements

The nursing assistant student must complete fifty-three (53) classroom instruction hours. The student must attain an average grade of at least 80% in the written examination and a satisfactory mark in return demonstration. If a student fails to attain the required passing mark, he/she must repeat the lesson through a computer administered test before he/she takes a removal examination.

The nursing assistant student must complete one hundred (100) clinical hours with a satisfactory mark from a clinical instructor. If the student fails to attain the required grade, he/she must extend his/her clinical hour(s) for a particular skill, at no extra cost.

A certificate of completion signed by the president of EVC is awarded to the student who has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the training program. All accounts must be settled before any student receives a certificate of completion.
